National Unicorn Day
Today we celebrate the gorgeous and mythical creature, the unicorn. A creature that has come to be seen as a symbol of all things fairy-tale-like, pure, and enchanting.
The Mystic Beasts
Unicorns have been popular since Ancient Greek times when people believed they lived in Exotic India. The Bible mentions the unicorn in some translations. They appear in many movies, cartoons, and in one of the most beloved movies of all time “The Last Unicorn.” It gives lore to the legend of this mystic beast, in other words, the magic is passed on.Lisa Frank
Lisa Frank, a well-known artist of the early ’90s, used variations of unicorns in her artwork. She colors them in all assortment of bright pinks, teals, yellows, and oranges. Her famous work is still on back-to-school supplies that became a favorite of many school-aged children. Do you remember spotting unicorns in some of our favorite theme parks? Here is where you can find our magical friend:- At Disney's Animal Kingdom you can find a unicorn silhouette in the Unicorn parking area.
- Disney's Animal Kingdom originally had a unicorn statue at the end of a lake which was saved by someone and now named the statue, "Beastly."
- Rainbow Unicorn is a minor character from Disney/Pixar's Inside Out.
- In Pixar's Onward, you can find unicorns as you would find raccoons, digging in the garbage.
- In Hagrid's Magical Motorbike Adventure at Universal's Island of Adventure, you can find a couple of unicorns at the end of the ride.
- Flight of the Hippogriff used to be the Flying Unicorn with an armored unicorn leading the way.
- Anges from Despicable Me has a unicorn called "Fluffy."
Unicorn-tivities
So what can you do, to celebrate #NationalUnicornDay?- Here we have some fun ideas for you to try:
- You can make some bright colored pancakes by using food dye, sprinkles, and whip cream.
- Bake cookies in the shape of unicorns.
- Look up some unicorn movies, and watch some of our favorites like: The Last Unicorn, Legend (starring Tim Curry,) Unicorn Store (on Netflix).
- Draw a picture of a unicorn or write a story about one.
- Read your favorite fantasy novel featuring unicorns.
