4 Tips to Maximize the Fun When Taking the Grandkids to Orlando

Your grandkids will remember their trip to Orlando for the rest of their lives. As you plan this epic adventure, there are a few simple tips you can follow to ensure everyone has the time of their lives.

1.         Make your trip as long as possible

Many grandparents don’t realize that the longer your trip is, the more affordable it is overall. For example, the more days you add to your discounted theme park tickets, the more affordable they become on a day-to-day basis. In fact, adding a day to a 4-day adult ticket costs just over $10. Compare this to the cost of $100+ for a single day ticket and you’ll see that getting the best value means spreading your trip out over as many days as possible.

2.         Take a day off

You’ll be tempted to maximize your time in the parks, which is quite understandable. This may be a once in a lifetime trip and you want to get the most out of it. However, keep in mind that if the grandkids get burnt out, meltdowns will occur. They are not an inevitability! Take a day to relax at your resort or Orlando vacation home and let everyone recharge. This will help everyone enjoy their time in the parks without getting worn out.

3.         Save money on meals

No matter what your budget is, there’s no reason to pay more than meals than you have to. There are many meals at Disney World that can easily feed several people. For example, for just over $10 you can visit Cosmic Ray’s in the Magic Kingdom and get ½ a chicken, ½ a rack of ribs, and several sides. This can easily make a meal for two or even three.

You can also rent an Orlando vacation home, which includes a full kitchen. There you can prepare one or more meals a day. This is a great choice to meet unique dietary needs, to save money, and to ensure everyone gets something to eat that they enjoy.

4.         Pay attention to crowd levels

Depending on the age of your grandkids, you may be able to visit during slower times. This will allow you to experience many more attractions, as wait times can be very, very low. If you must travel during typical school break times, be sure to check out the crowd calendars you can easily find online. These will tell you which parks will be busiest on which days. For example, Magic Kingdom is typically busiest on Mondays and weekends, while Animal Kingdom is usually slowest on Mondays and Thursdays. You can avoid the largest crowds by following these crowd calendars.
