Is there a bad time to
visit Orlando? We think not! That said, there are some better times than others to visit. For many people visiting Orlando in January is perfect for their needs. Most schools are in sessions so crowds are low, there are a lot of deals to be had, and the temperatures aren’t as hot and humid as they are in the summertime.
However, we’ve found that while many people love the great deals on Orlando vacation home rentals and Orlando hotels, they worry that there won’t be a lot of things to do in Orlando in January. Fortunately, that’s not the case. Let’s take a look at ten things to do in Orlando in January.
1. Take part in the holiday events at Universal Orlando
Visiting Orlando in January doesn’t mean you have to miss all the unique holiday experiences. In fact,
Universal Studios Orlando continues their holiday festivities through January 6
th. You’ll find decorations, lighting, holiday-themed food, and unique entertainment in every part of Universal, including
the Wizarding World of Harry Potter. Plus, there are parades, extra events at Seuss Landing, and tons more.
2. Epcot's Festival of the Arts
This festival runs from the middle of January to the middle of February and has a wide variety of activities and treats that show just how beautiful (and tasty!) art can be!
3. Take advantage of a wealth of shopping options
Though Orlando may be best known as a top theme park city in the world, there’s also tons of shopping to be done. Stop by
Disney Springs to see upscale boutiques from your favorite brands like Prada, or get deep discounts at one of the three outlet centers in the Orlando area.
4. Universal Orlando Resort’s Rock the Universe!
Rock the Universe is an annual Christian Music Festival held by Universal Orlando Resort that includes musical performances by popular Christian artists as well as access to all the thrilling rides and attractions Universal Orlando Resort offers!
5. Sesame Street Kids’ Weekend
If you have little ones that you’re wanting to celebrate with, look no further than SeaWorld! SeaWorld hosts this event in late January. Here you and the little ones can join Elmo, Cookie Monster, and all your favorite furry friends in an exclusive party just for kids! There will be activities, photo opportunities, and more!
6. Drawn Together
If you’re looking for something new, Drawn to Life by Cirque du Soleil is a brand new performance inspired by Disney animation and located right in the heart of Disney Springs! The show takes place in an indoor venue and follows the story of Julie who goes on an inspiring quest, touched by her Disney childhood memories. Drawn to Life brings together timeless Disney stories that we’ve all grown to love with a special touch of Cirque du Soleil performances.
7. PirateFest Weekends
LEGOLAND Florida hosts an event of their own too! During late January and extending into February, is PirateFest Weekends! Guests can join Captain Redbeard and help the pirate invasion take over LEGOLAND! This event has exclusive LEGO character meet-and-greets, pirate-themed shows, LEGO build activities, and more!
8. Take part in the Walt Disney World marathons
In early January you can take part in either the Walt Disney World Marathon or the Half Marathon. There will be thousands of people taking part in this annual event, which runs through all four Disney World parks: Magic Kingdom, Hollywood Studios, Epcot, and Animal Kingdom. There are only two marathon races but an entire weekend of fitness events.
9. Buy an antique car or just look at some incredible examples
In early January, you can visit Osceola Heritage Park for the Mecum Auction and Collector Car Show. It opens every day at 8 am, kids 12 and under are free, and adults are $20 each. You’ll see some incredible cars and may even have the chance to buy your dream machine.
10. Medieval Times
Join in the shouting and revelry of Medieval Times. Watch a jousting competition, sword fighting, and enjoy a hearty meal in this unique dinner show.
