Touring Disney While Pregnant: What You Need to Know

Disney World is for everyone! This is apparent in the fact that there are such a wide range of rides and attractions available to excite people of any age or interest, and in the fact that Disney goes out of their way to make sure that those with special needs are well taken care of. This extends to pregnant guests. Check out these important things you need to know if you’re planning to tour the World while pregnant.

Take it easy!

This may seem like obvious advice, but it’s the most often overlooked: take it easy! If you’ve visited Disney many times and are used to doing it all, you need to temper your expectations because you will not be able to go at your regular speed. Expect to cover about half of what you would normally cover, and expect to get tired much earlier than usual. A good game plan is to visit in the morning, take a long break for lunch, and come back for casual touring at night.

Stay hydrated

This is excellent advice for anyone, but is especially important for expectant mothers. Doctors recommend at least 64 ounces of water a day under normal circumstances, but when you’re walking around in the heat all day you’ll likely need more. A great tip to save on money is to buy a case of water at a local grocery store, or have it shipped directly to your vacation home or Orlando resort. Bring a bottle of water with you when you visit the parks in the morning and another when you head back in the evening. This could save you $100 or more if you’re staying for a full week.

Be flexible with your dining options

Remember that you’re likely to have ever-changing food cravings and aversions while you’re on your trip. As a result, it’s best not to tie yourself down to very specific meals. For example, booking Hoop-de-Doo-Revue may not be the best option, since they have a very specific menu. On the other hand, booking a reservation at California Grill is likely fine, since they have such a wide variety of dishes on the menu.

Schedule an entire day off

If you’re planning to visit Disney World for more than four days, we recommend planning a day off. This doesn’t mean you have to sit around your resort or vacation home – though a day lounging at the pool never hurt anyone! – but you can take the time to see Downtown Disney, take in a show, or even go miniature golfing. Whatever you do on your off day, make sure it’s at a slower pace than you plan to go the rest of the trip, and make sure you take it easy!
