Tips for Your Grandchildren at Disney

Taking your grandchildren to Disney World is a wonderful way to create a lifelong memory that they’ll never forget. However, with so much to do, so many plans to make, and so many things to consider, it can feel a little overwhelming. Here are 7 simple tips to help you make the most of your time.

Get the parents on board

Remember that parents can be incredibly nervous to have their kids off on a trip without them. Your grandkids have a routine at home, and while you likely can’t follow it to the letter when on vacation, you should do your best to follow the rules their parents set down.

Get the children involved in the planning

The more involved the kids are in planning, the more they’ll look forward to the trip – and the less they’re likely to be nervous the day you take off.

Put the kids first

There’s something for everyone at Disney World, but when you have young kids along for the ride, put their interests first. Let them experience the parks the way they want to.

Don’t try to do everything

You could spend weeks at the Disney theme parks and still not have seen it all. Pick the must-do rides and attractions, but don’t try to do everything in one trip.

Give the kids their space

Your grandkids are going to be overstimulated and have a lot of attention the entire trip. Give them the chance to wind down on their own, whether it’s a swim by themselves while you watch from the sidelines, or a chance to relax with an ice cream cone and their favorite shows back in the room.

Travel insurance may pay off

There are a lot of pros and cons to traveling insurance, but when you’re traveling with young guests you may end up really glad you bought it. Make sure your policy covers the grandkids too, and that it protects against the event of illness.

Pack light

This may go against your instincts to pack everything the kids could possibly need, but remember that carting around a lot of luggage will fall to you. Instead, plan on buying them a few souvenir t-shirts, or take advantage of the laundry facilities available in most hotels.

If you follow these 7 tips, you’ll have a great start toward the trip of a lifetime!
