Saving Money on Road Trips to Disney World

Depending on how far you’re driving from, and what kind of mileage our vehicle gets, you could save a ton of money driving to Disney World rather than flying – especially if you have a larger family. However, there are a few ways you can maximize that savings. Check out our top tips for saving money on a road trip to Disney World.

Check your tire pressure

If your tires aren’t properly inflated your gas mileage could be significantly impacted. Stop by any gas station that offers air and use their tire pressure gauge. Not sure what your tires should be inflated to? It’s easy! Just open the driver’s side door and check the plate inside it. There you’ll find optimal tire inflation numbers. If you’re not sure how to handle this, stop by your local mechanic. It generally just costs a few bucks and takes a few minutes to make sure you’re properly inflated.

Use cruise control

The easiest way to reduce your fuel consumption is to keep your foot off the gas. If you get into a grove on the interstate, be sure to turn your cruise control on. It’ll apply gas only when needed, which reduces your fuel consumption over the course of your trip.

Ask your mechanic for advice

Before you take off on your trip be sure to visit your mechanic. Whether it’s time for a tune-up, an oil change, or other maintenance, you can benefit from a quick check of your engine and other essential parts. Not only can this help you increase your fuel economy, but it can make you aware of any issues that should be taken care of before you go. Breaking down on the road can be incredibly costly when you consider the cost towing, paying an out of town mechanic, and possible hotel stays as you wait for your vehicle to be repaired.

Check your spare tire

In a perfect world you’d get there and back without incident, but you should be prepared for something to go wrong. Make sure your spare tire is inflated correctly and that you know how to change it if necessary. If you have roadside assistance be sure to have the number on hand and know your account number. This will make it easy for you to get the help you need in the event the worst happens.

Pack a cooler

The cost of fast food can add up quickly, not to mention the sluggishness that can set in after eating nothing but junk food for days at a time. Instead, pack a cooler with fresh fruit, sandwiches, yogurt, and other healthy, affordable treats. You can stop once a day for a meal – which has the added bonus of giving you a nice break from the road – but you’ll save a ton if most of the food you eat is food your brought.
