Is Genie+ Worth It At Disney World?
Created with the mission to “reimagine the guest experience at the Disney World Resort,” Genie is a new application designed to help guests improve their visit like never before. From a personalized park map to a custom tip board, the service has a lot of value to offer — and that’s just with the free version.
Still, if you want an enhanced experience, you can purchase a Disney World packages with Genie+, which comes with several improvements. In this article, we’ll discuss what these benefits are and — most importantly — whether they’re worth your money.
What is Genie+?
Whether you’re staying at one of the many Orlando vacation homes near Disney World or Disney Orlando hotels, you know that the brand takes its guest experience very seriously. So, it’s no surprise to learn that they’ve created some premium options you could implement into your visit.
For $15 per day, you can upgrade your Genie service to Genie+. This grants you access to the application’s standard features, like a daily itinerary and detailed navigation options, along with some unique extras, including:
- Line Skipping: Genie+ enables you to skip the line at most rides at Disney World. Unfortunately, the more popular rides will require an extra fee — the price of which depends on current demand.
- PhotoPass Lenses: Using AR technology, you can make your Disney PhotoPass as unique as you want it to be. It’s not exactly a practical addition, but a fun one, nonetheless.
- Audio Tales: Enjoy a behind-the-scenes tour with Audio Tales, which promises to reveal exclusive fun facts and insights into the park.
Is Upgrading to Genie+ Worth It?
So, is this service something to consider when purchasing your Disney World packages? The short answer is yes! But there’s a catch. See, if you purchase a Disney ticket that already includes Genie+, you could end up spending more money than you need to. For instance, if you purchase a 4-day ticket, you’re also required to pay for 4 days’ worth of Genie+! The reason this is a problem is that, ultimately, Genie+ is only useful for the Magic Kingdom and Hollywood Studios areas. If you spend your time properly, you’d be able to experience these in their entirety within one or two days, making the rest of your Genie+ days a waste. (As a bonus tip, we also recommend individually purchasing the lightning lane for the Avatar Flight of Passage in the Animal Kingdom.) Furthermore, if you’re visiting Disney World during a slow season, you might not even need to invest in Genie+, as the crowds will already be low. These periods include:- January
- February
- May (excluding Memorial Day weekend)
- September
