How Long Should Your First Trip to Disney World Be?
It’s the age old question everyone has on their first trip to Disney: how long is too long, and how long is not enough? Of course the answer will vary based on how long you can be away from home and your budget, but if you have all the time in the world and don’t mind splurging for your Orlando vacation, then we recommend 6 – 8 nights.
Disney World has 4 theme parks (Magic Kingdom, Epcot Center, Hollywood Studios, and Animal Kingdom) and each one can easily take a full day. In fact, most first time visitors could spend an entire week in Magic Kingdom alone!
Generally speaking, those who want to spend the majority of their day in the parks can plan to get through most attractions in all 4 theme parks within 5 days. So why do we recommend 6 – 8 days? For a few reasons.
First, you’ll want down time. Many don’t realize just how massive these parks are and how much walking is involved. Visiting the parks for a few days in a row and then take a much needed day off to lounge by the pool will be a welcome break once you’re down there.
Next, consider how many other things there are to do in the area. Universal Orlando is a great park for those seeking thrills, GatorLand is a great day trip, and the beach is only a few hours away. If you’re taking a once in a lifetime trip, make the most of it!
If you don’t want to commit that much time to your vacation then you’ve got two options: prioritize the rides and attractions you can’t miss and be willing to skip quite a few, or tour from the moment the parks open until the moment they close for 4 days in a row.
