We see people all the time who simply did what their neighbor did, or assume that booking directly through Disney is the best way to get a great deal. The reality is that there are only a few steps that need to be taken to get an incredible deal – but they must be taken.

Work with an Orlando expert

You’ll easily find plenty of online travel sites that are offering up all kinds of Orlando vacation packages but there’s on major downside to working with them: They don’t specialize in Orlando trips. Sure, they may have some minimal discounts and offer something that sounds great. But to get the best deal – and the best experience – you’ll want to work with a company that only works on Orlando trips. You can trust them to not only help you get a great discount but work with you as you have questions about your options.

Stay at an off-site resort or vacation homes in Orlando

One of the easiest ways you can pay double for your trip is to book directly through Disney. They offer a host of hotel options on their site, ranging in price from relatively affordable to extremely expensive. No matter where your budget falls between those options, you’ll get a much better deal if you look at off-site resorts or vacation homes in Orlando.

Depending on where you want to stay, you could end up with staying at hotels inside Disney for half the price you’d pay to stay at an official Disney hotel. In other instances, you could pay the same amount but get a suite instead of a tiny room. These off-site hotels offer all the amenities you’d expect from a Disney resort and most include free shuttles to and from the parks.

If you’re traveling with more than two people then vacation homes in Orlando may be the best option. Many families don’t even consider these options because they assume they’ll be too expensive. The reality is that if you book Walt Disney World packages with the right company, it can be considerably more affordable to rent vacation homes in Orlando than it is to rent a hotel room – especially if your party is large enough that two hotel rooms would be necessary.

Not to mention that vacation homes offer a lot more room, private pools, multiple bedrooms, free parking, great locations within 15 minutes of the parks, and fully equipped kitchens so you can cook your own meals. As you can see, there are a number of ways that a vacation home could save you big.

Start with base theme park tickets

Whether you’re going to the Disney World theme parks or the Universal Orlando parks, there are upgrades available. For example, at Disney you can get what’s called a park hopper. This allows you to visit more than one Disney park on the same day. At Universal Orlando, the same option is referred to as park-to-park admission. Universal Orlando also offers an Express Pass that lets you skip the lines. It can cost upwards of $99 per person per day, so it’s quite the expense.

Do you need these extras? That depends on how long you’re staying, what time of year you’re traveling, and how quickly you want to set your pace. That said, it’s always true that you can upgrade once you’re in the parks. That’s why we always recommend that you start with just the base theme park ticket. If you get to the theme parks and find that you do want the park hopper, just go to the closest Guest Services window and upgrade – it won’t cost more than if you’d paid ahead of time. The same is true of Express Pass – just find the closest Express Pass kiosk and book your extras.

Choose the right time to visit and book far in advance

For the absolute best rates on Walt Disney World packages, you’re going to want to travel during the slowest times of year. That includes the winter months (except the holidays) or early spring (before spring break). Families with school-aged children often don’t have the flexibility to travel during the off-season, but for those in year-round school or with older children, traveling during these less busy times of year not only means lower crowds but it means lower prices too.

Likewise, the sooner you book your Walt Disney World packages, the better your deal is likely to be. First, you’ll have your pick of hotels or vacation homes in Orlando. Second, both of the major theme parks raise their ticket prices on average at least once a year. As a result, if you book today then you could save money by paying less for your tickets than you would six months from now.
